'Scandalous' - Eric Cantona slams Man United after what they did to their club legend

Eric Cantona has slammed Manchester United’s ‘scandalous’ decision to end Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambassador contract.

INEOS, part-owners of United, made the decision earlier today as part of their ongoing cost-cutting measures at the Theatre of Dreams.

Ferguson spent nearly three decades at United, establishing himself as the club’s most successful manager.

He called time on his illustrious 26-year spell at United in 2013 but remained a global ambassador and club director at the club while earning an annual salary.

However, INEOS have decided to pull the plug on his ambassadorial salary, although the 82-year-old will remain a non-executive director and is welcome to attend future United games.

United legend Cantona has taken to social media to voice his outrage and discontent at the decision.

The former France international, who won four Premier League titles in five seasons with United during the 1990s, said (via Instagram): “Sir Alex Ferguson should be able to do anything he wants at the club until the day he dies.

“Such a lack of respect. It’s totally scandalous. Sir Alex Ferguson will be my boss forever!”

Ferguson won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, five FA Cups and four League Cups during his 26-year reign at Old Trafford.

The Scottish manager is still hugely influential behind the scenes, so INEOS’ decision has perplexed many around the club.

Former England international and United defender Rio Ferdinand has also voiced his opinion on the decision.

The defender, who joined United from Leeds United under Ferguson’s leadership in 2002, suggested the decision was a signal from the club’s management that “no one is safe”.

United are struggling with their worst start to a Premier League season after claiming just eight points from seven games.

Pressure is mounting on manager Erik ten Hag, but so far, the Dutchman still has the backing and the confidence of the club hierarchy.

United will return to action at Old Trafford against Brentford on Saturday. All eyes will be on their performance amidst ongoing uncertainty surrounding the club’s decisions.
