'Out of context': Vance scolds reporter asking about Trump's 'enemy from within' threat

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) insisted Wednesday that reporters had taken former President Donald Trump's remarks about deploying the military on election day against some U.S. voters "out of context."

At a campaign event in Pennsylvania, Peter Zampa of Gray Television asked Vance about Trump's recent threat to use the military against Democrats on election day.

"First, a couple of days ago, former President Trump suggested that if necessary, the military step in and handle what he calls the enemy from within on election day," Zampa noted. "What exactly does that mean?"

"The media likes to hang their hat on something that Donald Trump said, they take it out of context," Vance replied.

The Republican vice presidential nominee pointed to riots that took place in the wake of the death of George Floyd to make his point.

"We have various far-left activists who are talking about civil unrest in this country if Donald Trump were to be elected president again," Vance said. "If you have people who are rioting in American streets, whether they're Democrats or Republicans, whatever their political persuasion is, we are not going to let that happen."

"We believe in law and order in this country," he added. "That's what Donald Trump is talking about, and I think it's very simple."
