A pub in central London could have its opening hours cut back after a neighbour complained of noise ‘wafting into his bedroom’ at night.

Westminster Council’s licensing committee are considering forcing The Globe, located opposite Baker Street Station, to close an hour earlier after a neighbour submitted a complaint to the town hall.

According to official documents, the neighbour said ‘murmuring’ outside the pub was keeping him up at night after the pub’s 12am closing time.

The resident wrote: ‘These patrons continue to socialise in the forecourt whereby the constant murmuring and occasional bout of laughter wafts into my bedroom at the exact time I am trying to doze off to sleep.

‘The consequence of which is that I am consistently being woken up by The Globe’s patrons.

‘As a consequence my adrenaline spikes and I am often unable to fall asleep for another two hours or so. This then takes days for me to recover.’

The neighbour added that customers can take up to 45 minutes after closing to leave the area and on six nights between March 15 and March 27 there were several ‘noise incidents.’

The resident included a series of WhatsApp messages with The Globe’s manager as evidence.

In a text sent at 12:01am on March 27, they wrote: ‘We need to find a solution here. This is not ok. They are now screaming happy birthday.’

To which the manager replied: ‘Moving them as best we can and have told to be quiet.’

In a later exchange, on April 6 and 11:54pm, the resident complained that doormen are not moving customers away or asking them to ‘respect the residents.’

The manager replied: ‘It not even 12, this is getting excessive now, we are moving them they are also not making noise.’

The review, which Westminster Council said ‘had been brought on the grounds of the prevention of public nuisance, could see the Greene King pub forced to shut its doors an hour early.

The same neighbour filed a complaint in 2022, citing the excessive ‘pinging’ of beer barrels when they were being carried into the premises.

That led to a condition being added to the bar’s license meaning it cannot accept deliveries between 11pm and 7am.
