PRIME Video’s beloved sci-fi series starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen has reportedly been axed after a number of misconduct allegations came out against show creator Neil Gaiman.

The show was set to return for a third series and filming had already begun, but it was paused indefinitely last month.

It now looks to have been axed and replaced by a new project as production on a one-off TV movie titled The Finale has been revealed.

According to reports David and Michael will return to screens as their characters Crowley and Aziraphale one last time.

“Very much not confirmed, but production listings have appeared for ‘Good Omens: The Finale’ in the form of a TV Movie,” TV Zone tweeted on X

It was reported last month by Deadline that the programme makers are now discussing “possible production changes” amid the filming of the show.

A TV movie could wrap up the Good Omens storyline using scenes that have already been filmed.

Production for Good Omens’ third series had gotten under way in Scotland before it was brought to a dramatic halt

The decision to cancel the series comes in the wake of a number of sexual assault allegations against the show’s writer and executive producer Neil Gaiman.

Five women recently came forward detailing a number of misconduct allegations against him going back to 1986 as part of the podcast Master: the Allegations Against Neil Gaiman.

He denied all the allegations and insisted he was “disturbed” by the claims.

Disney+ has also paused its adaptation of Neil’s The Graveyard Book. And in August, Netflix cancelled the second season of Dead Boy Detectives, which is based on his intellectual property.

Good Omens, which is based on the well-loved novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Neil, 56, and the late Sir Terry Pratchett, became a worldwide hit after it premiered in 2019.

As a result, Prime Video ordered a second series of the show which debuted in July 2023.

Season 2 explored storylines that went beyond the original source material to illuminate the ineffable friendship between Aziraphale and Crowley.

The now-cancelled third series was set to advance their story further, bringing to life the wishes of Neil and Terry, who mapped out “what happens next” to them almost 35 years ago.

Series three was set to have Neil continue as executive producer, writer, and showrunner. Meanwhile, Rob Wilkins of Narrativia will represent Terry Pratchett’s estate. The duo is also joined by BBC Studios Productions’ head of comedy Josh Cole as an executive producer.

David Tennant's Career Highlights

David Tennant has become one of the UK’s most prolific actors with countless films and TV shows under his belt.

Among one of his most notable roles is his portrayal of the tenth Doctor in Doctor Who in which he appeared regularly between 2007 and 2010.

Proving popular with fans, he returned in both 2013 and 2023 to play the character once again.

One of David’s most acclaimed and series roles was that of DI Alec Hardy in ITV’s crime drama Broadchurch.

The show ran between 2013 and 2017 and went on to be nominated, and win, a slew of top TV gongs.

In recent years, he appeared in three series of the show Staged before going on to portray Alexander Litvinenko in the ITV1 dramatisation Litvinenko.

Neil, who also wrote the hit Netflix series The Sandman, said: “I’m so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006.

“Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end,” the prolific fantasy writer added.

He continued, teasing the show’s progression through the seasons: “Season One was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the End of the World.

“Season Two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped.
“Now, in Season Three, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right. And they aren’t talking.”

Previously celebrating the show’s return, Rob added: “We’re delighted to see Crowley and Aziraphale returning after breaking our hearts in Season Two.

“Seeing award-winning duo David [Tennant] and Michael [Sheen] reunited will be such a joy. We only wish Terry was here to enjoy the ride with us.”
