At least seven killed as MILF factions clash in Maguindanao del Norte
COTABATO CITY, Philippines – A bloody encounter between two factions of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Barangay Tuca Maror, Bongo Island, Parang, Maguindanao del Norte, left at least seven people dead.
The clash, which occurred Friday, October 18, involved armed groups led by Tamano Aragasi and MILF commanders Macmod and Paradise, according to initial reports from the Philippine National Police’s Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PNP PRO BAR).
“As of now, four bodies have been recovered,” said Brigadier General Romeo Macapaz, BARMM police director.
Authorities are still searching for three others believed to have drowned during the intense firefight in the sea.
“The recovered bodies have been identified as members of Commander Paradise’s group,” said Macapaz.
Authorities also recovered high-powered firearms, handheld radios, ammunition, and MILF uniforms from the clash site.
The PNP and Marines have deployed personnel to the area to ensure the safety of civilians and prevent further violence.
A few weeks ago, the same groups were involved in a firefight that also left several people dead.
