Sir Alex Ferguson looks in good spirits as he snubs Man Utd for another match after being axed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe

SIR ALEX FERGUSON was all smiles as he snubbed Manchester United’s clash with Brentford in favour of a trip down memory lane.

The legendary Red Devils boss was removed from his post as a club ambassador earlier this week.

Fergie loses out on his £2.16m-per-year pay-cheque following his surprise axe.

The 82-year-old was spotted taking in Celtic‘s Scottish Premiership clash with Aberdeen at Celtic Park on Saturday.

Ferguson grew up in Glasgow and famously managed Aberdeen between 1978 and 1986.

The ex-United boss was spotted beaming in the stands in the build-up to the game.

His axing from his ambassadorial role is said to have been accepted amicably during a meeting with fellow execs.

Ferguson is understood to be maintaining his position as a non-executive member of the board.

He is also said to be welcome at any United games going forward, as has been the case since his departure as manager in 2013.

Current United boss Erik ten Hag is fighting for his job following a dismal start to the season.

Sir Alex has been seen regularly in the stands at the Theatre of Dreams this campaign.

Asked about Ferguson leaving his ambassadorial role, Ten Hag said: “Of course, it has an impact on us.

“Sir Alex is Manchester United, he built Manchester United to where the club is now, it impacts us.

“[He] wants to see a winning Manchester United.

“I’m sure he’s always available for every advice, we will need him as we did in the last two and a half years.”

Going into Saturday’s showdown with Brentford, Man Utd have won just two of seven league games this season.

The Dutchman continued: “We have a mountain to climb.

“But that is top football and sometimes you have to face challenges — sometimes it goes up, sometimes it goes down.

“I am sure we will make it a success as we did the last two seasons.

“We are in a direction, underneath I see good things.”
