Iranian President Pezeshkian to participate 16th BRICS Summit in Russia
Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, is set to travel to Russia to attend the 16th BRICS Summit.
The 16th annual BRICS Summit will be held in Kazan, Russia, from October 22-24, 2024.
Iranian media reported on Saturday, October 19, that Pezeshkian will travel to Moscow in the next three days.
According to reports, the Iranian president will meet and talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow.
Additionally, he will have a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Before this, Pezeshkian had visited Turkmenistan.
This visit highlights Iran’s growing engagement with international platforms like BRICS and its efforts to strengthen ties with Russia and China.
As geopolitical dynamics shift, Iran aims to play a more significant role on the global stage, especially within alliances that counterbalance Western influence.
Iran officially joined BRICS in early 2024, five months after being accepted as a full member alongside Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
BRICS, initially formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, represents 40% of the global population and a quarter of the world’s GDP.
During its BRICS presidency, Russia has said it will strengthen partnerships across three key areas: politics and security, economy and finance, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
