Smoke billows out of Newark home during overnight fire: 'Lost everything'

NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) – Smoke billowed from a Newark home that set fire over the weekend, and one resident said he’s lost everything. 

The fire broke out overnight Saturday at a building on Eckert Avenue. Video from the scene shows flames bursting through the entire building and at least one person being taken out by firefighters.

One building resident said there had been a birthday party before the fire broke out. 

“Everything I own is gone,” said a man who has lived in the building for two years. "I thank God that I'm here but I've lost everything."

PIX11 could not confirm the details of the fire with Newark officials.
