As we all know, Hurricane Helene utterly devastated Western North Carolina. The flooding was incredible; it was so severe that in places, the geography was irrevocably changed. Mountainsides, houses and roads were swept away. Far too many souls were lost and some are still missing. It’s a reasonable bet to think they’ll never be found now.

People have come in from all over to help and of course Appalachian people have always known how to take care of themselves. It’s been about a month now and while there have been issues as there are with all disasters, the relief efforts have been remarkable.

However, there is still a lot of work to do and winter is coming fast. The human spirit we’ve seen has has been amazing and inspirational, particularly with cold weather beginning to arrive.

One of our friends from the boards has been working with a non-profit called Working Wheels that aims to help people regain transportation. Clearly they’ve done good work.

Now they’ve set up a GoFundMe to help even more people secure transportation post-Helene.

Their goal is to raise $125,000 and as of this post, they’ve raised $5,650.00.

This is a great idea and it’s very deserving of your support. Obviously cash is the easiest way to do so, but if you have a car you’d like to get rid of, they can talk to you about that.

Any way you do it, any way you can, please help. This fundraiser will change lives.
