White House Halloween event draws attention on social media

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden hosted trick-or-treaters to the White House South Lawn on Wednesday night.

A moment from the event when President Biden pretended to take a bite of a baby dressed as a chicken while handing out candy has since attracted attention on social media. The president was also seen playfully nibbling on the toe of a child dressed as an ice cream cone.

The first lady, dressed as a giant panda, handed out candy and books alongside the president to local students and military families. This year’s theme, picked by the first lady, was “Hallo-Read.”

The White House was decorated with large jack-o-lanterns, stacks of books, fall foliage and pumpkins.

The day’s festivities featured a spooky story time and popular children’s book characters like Corduroy, Peter Rabbit and Madeline dressed up on the South Lawn.

The White House said about 8,000 guests participated in this year’s Halloween event.
