‘Frasier’ Reboot Recreates Sitcom’s Iconic Sets for New Episode
Frasier Crane, the Northwest’s favorite radio psychiatrist, has returned to Seattle. Several of Frasier’s most iconic sets were recreated for an episode of Paramount+’s revival series which began streaming Oct. 31.
Played by Kelsey Grammer, Frasier was first introduced in the third season of Cheers in 1984. Grammar then headlined the equally successful, self-titled follow-up for 11 seasons from 1993 until 2004. In Oct. 2023, Paramount+ debuted a follow-up to Frasier which finds Dr. Crane relocated from Seattle back to his beloved Boston. Despite guest appearances from Frasier regulars, Grammer is the only cast member to return in a regular capacity. David Hyde Pierce, who played Frasier’s brother Niles, declined to return; John Mahoney, who played their curmudgeonly father, died in 2018.
But with Thursday’s episode, fans now have a chance to catch up with Roz (Peri Gilpin), Bulldog (Dan Butler), Gil (Edward Hibbert), and the rest of the KACL gang. Grammer directed the reunion episode, which finds Frasier visiting his old co-workers and dropping by former haunt Café Nervosa for an espresso. And for those who were wondering, the fate of Niles and wife Daphne (Jane Leeves) was finally revealed: They moved to Sedona, AZ, where fussy Niles no doubt has much difficulty keeping his ascots clean.
As the original sets were long ago destroyed, it fell to Frasier’s producers to commission painstaking recreations of two of the show’s most iconic sets. “As fans, getting to revisit some of the iconic sets and characters of the original series was one of the highlights of the season for us,” executive producers Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli said in a statement. “As producers, we couldn’t believe what a pain it was to find ‘90s-era radio equipment.”
