Second arrest made in connection with St. Martinville homecoming murder
ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- A second person has been implicated in the shooting that killed Deion’Dre Benjamin near the St. Martinville High School homecoming football game Oct. 25.
Jacque Broussard, 30, of St. Martinville, is charged with accessory after the fact to second degree murder. Broussard is accused of driving the suspect in the shooting, Zackyric Gardner, to Texas, where both were arrested.
Gardner was arrested Saturday in the shooting, which took place just before kickoff of the St. Martinville-Erath football game last Friday night. He was arrested in Texas and charged with second-degree murder. St. Martinville Police Chief Ricky Martin said two people were in the vehicle when suspect was arrested, and that Gardner was the passenger.
Broussard is being held at the St. Martin Parish jail on $1 million bond.
Martin said more arrests are expected in the case.
