Trump's new round of violent rants 'look completely insane' to U.S. allies: WaPo columnist

Donald Trump openly mused about Liz Cheney facing down the barrels of nine guns, which MSNBC's Joe Scarborough and other panelists on "Morning Joe" found more than disturbing.

The former president made the menacing comment during an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson while criticizing the former Republican congresswoman as a "war hawk," and Scarborough wondered what sort of message Trump was trying to send in the closing stretch of the presidential campaign.

"Donald Trump calling for Liz Cheney being shot in the face by nine guns, nine rifles in the closing weekend of the campaign," Scarborough said. "Not only what it says about where the Republican Party is in 2024, but also what it must look like to our allies in London, in Paris, in Madrid, in Warsaw, across the world."

Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson could only imagine what U.S. allies were thinking about one of the two candidates who could be president-elect by this time next week.

"Well, it looked completely insane to our allies across the world, and it is – this is unprecedented, and this is – I'm so glad that we're focusing on this, and spending some time on it," Robinson said. "This is not normal, this is not acceptable. This is so dangerous, and I just want to, you know, I don't usually do a personal appeal, but I hope my friend, Paul Gigot, the editor of the Wall Street Journal editorial pages – Paul, are you watching this? Are you paying attention to this? Is this okay with you? Because I know it's not, and don't you have a responsibility to say that to your readers? This is absolutely beyond the pale. It's a direct threat – not nine barrels pointed at her, nine barrels shooting at her."
