VIDEO: Twisted Escape Room employee helps family escape shooting at Vancouver Mall

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Surveillance footage shows a family escaping a recent shooting inside Vancouver Mall when a Twisted Escape Room employee gave them access to safety.

In the middle of a family trick-or-treating event at the mall, someone in the food court opened fire — killing one person and sending two others to the hospital — around 7:30 p.m., according to police

In a video shared with KOIN 6 News, three adults and several children can be seen running from the scene when an escape room employee unlocked the door and let them inside. A man can be seen carrying a small child in his arms as the group made their way through the room with their candy bags from the event.

According to authorities, the suspect was wearing a Halloween-type mask at the time of the shooting and it is believed to have been a targeted attack.

The two people who were hospitalized, both men, ages 30 and 40, were released from the hospital after treatment. Authorities said they believe they were hit by accident due to their close proximity to the initial shooting.

On Friday, Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle thanked those who helped to protect mall visitors and law enforcement for their quick response. She also encouraged anyone with information to come forward and share it with the Vancouver Police Department.

"So this is not like NCIS where there are cameras everywhere for everything, at every moment. that is not the situation," McEnerny-Ogle said. "But this is Halloween night, so there were hundreds and hundreds of people there, all leaving quickly. So our hopes are that anyone who has any additional information will call it in."

The suspect of the shooting remains at large as of Friday afternoon. An investigation is ongoing.
