Arizona State Hands Cowboys Sixth Straight Loss

Oklahoma State's football team had to endure a two and a half hour weather delay, and had a poor second half in a 42-21 loss to Arizona State at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater on Saturday night.

The loss marks the sixth in a row for the Cowboys, their longest losing streak since 2000.

It's OSU's first 0-6 start in Big 12 play since 2001 and they've lost three straight home games for the first time since 2005.

For the fifth time this season, the Cowboy defense gave up more than 500 yards, as the Sun Devils gained 529 total yards.

Arizona State scored touchdowns on three straight possessions in the second half to put the game away.

Sun Devils quarterback Sam Leavitt was 20-for-29 passing for 304 yards and three touchdowns, and running back Cam Skattebo rushed for 153 yards on 20 carries with one rushing TD and two receiving scores.

OSU's offense was held to just 270 total yards, with Ollie Gordon rushing for just 25 yards on 11 carries.

Alan Bowman was 17-for-30 for 175 yards and a touchdown plus an interception.

Arizona State got the ball to start the game and went 75 yards in eight plays to a touchdown.

Running back Cam Skattebo gained 29 yards on a run, and the drive finished with Sam Leavitt passing over the middle to Jordyn Tyson for a 22-yard touchdown to put the Sun Devils up 7-0 with 11:22 to play in the first quarter.

Oklahoma State's first drive gained 23 yards and the Cowboys had to punt.

Arizona State then moved into OSU territory, getting a 29-yard pass from Leavitt to Chamon Metayer.

OSU's defense held, and Parker Lewis missed a 47-yard field goal attempt wide right with 2:36 to play in the first quarter.

The Cowboys turned the ball over on the ensuing possession, as Alan Bowman had his pass intercepted by Javan Robinson at the Sun Devils' 48-yard line.

After the play, ASU's Justin Wodtly was ejected for spitting at an OSU player.

The penalty backed up ASU to their own 33-yard line.

The Sun Devils lost 20 yards from there, with Jaleel Johnson sacking Leavitt for a loss of 17 on the final play of the first quarter.

The Cowboys went 53 yards in six plays to tie the game.

Bowman found De'Zhaun Stribling for a gain of 36 to the ASU 10.

It appeared Ollie Gordon had scored on a four-yard touchdown run, but officials ruled Arizona State had an injured player on the field and the play did not count.

OSU scored anyway, as Bowman passed to Brennan Presley for a touchdown on 4th and goal from the 1-yard line and it was 7-7 with 12:48 to play in the second quarter.

Arizona State responded by going 75 yards in seven plays to regain the lead.

On 4th and 1 from the 50, Leavitt passed to a wide open Skattebo in the flat and he ran 50 yards for a touchdown to put the Sun Devils up 14-7 with 9:18 left in the second quarter.

Oklahoma State responded by going 75 yards in 10 plays to a touchdown.

Bowman passed to Josh Ford for a gain of 26 yards to the ASU 8-yard line.

Gordon scored on a 2-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 14 with 5:26 to play in the first half.

The Sun Devils ate up almost the rest of the time in the first half, going 75 yards in 13 plays to regain the lead.

Leavitt passed to Jake Smith for a gain of 30 yards to the OSU 43-yard line.

The drive was finished off by a one-yard touchdown run by Skattebo to give ASU a 21-14 lead with 20 seconds left in the first half.

After the two and half hour weather delay, the second half began with OSU's Kyler Pearson returning the opening kickoff back 98 yards for an apparent touchdown.

It was called back for a holding penalty and the Cowboys had to start on their own 17-yard line.

OSU gained 20 yards on five plays but had to punt.

The Cowboys forced an ASU punt, but then Bowman threw three straight incompletions and OSU had to punt again.

The Sun Devils then went 61 yards in eight plays to extend the lead.

Kyson Brown scored on a seven yard touchdown run to make it 28-14 ASU with 5:19 to play in the third quarter.

OSU was once again forced to punt on their next possession.

Arizona State responded with a nine-play, 88-yard drive to add to their lead.

Leavitt passed to Skattebo for a 36-yard touchdown to make it 35-14 Sun Devils with 14:12 to play in the fourth quarter.

OSU's first drive of the fourth ended by the Cowboys turning it over on downs, as Bowman scrambled on a fourth and 5 and only gained four yards.

Arizona State took over on the OSU 34-yard line and took five plays to score.

Skattebo gain 19 yards to the one-yard line, and two plays later, Kyson Brown scored from a yard out to make it 42-14 Devils with 10:22 to play.

Another "three-and-out" possession followed for OSU and they punted.

The Cowboys forced a Sun Devil punt, then put together their first scoring drive of the second half, going 49 yards in seven plays to a touchdown.

Maue Smith came in at quarterback and completed an 11-yard pass and had a five-yard run, then Sesi Vailahi finished the drive with an 11-yard touchdown run to cut ASU's lead to 42-21 with 4:12 remaining.

This the third straight season OSU has played Arizona State, with the Cowboys having won the last two matchups in non-conference play.

Oklahoma State falls to 3-6 on the season, 0-6 in Big 12 play.

The Cowboys visit TCU next Saturday at 6:00 pm on FS1.
