Target practice leads to one hospitalized in Fairfield County

PICKERINGTON, Ohio (WCMH) – Fairfield County deputies are investigating a shooting in Violet Township after a man was struck by a bullet Thursday night.

According to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, a call was received in which gunshots were reported in the 7000 block of Optimara Drive, east of Pickerington. Deputies arrived about 5 p.m. and found an adult male victim who had been shot in the leg.

Violet Township medics supplied emergency aid to the victim and took him to a hospital for treatment.

Deputies eventually identified the location from where the shots came and contacted a man, who admitted he had been target shooting when the victim had been shot. The sheriff’s office said it was then determined there was no additional threat to area residents and the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the incident and conferring with the Fairfield County Prosecutor’s Office on whether to file charges. Anyone with additional information on this case can call 740-652-7911.
