Jury selected as Conor McGregor and another man face rape allegations in High Court civil action

A JURY has been selected for the High Court civil action in which UFC star Conor McGregor and another man are facing allegations of rape.

Ahead of the process, Mr Justice Alexander Owens told the jury pool of the nature of the case.

He said that in the statement of claim Nikita Ni Laimhin, who is a hair colourist, is suing McGregor and another man, named James Lawrence, for damages.

He said her allegations centre around the claim that she was sexually assaulted and raped by both defendants.

Mr Justice Owens said: “Essentially the allegation in the statement of claim is Mr McGregor sexually assaulted Ms Ni Laimhin and in effect raped her on December 9, 2018.

“Mr Lawrence did likewise.”

But he made clear it was not a criminal process, but a civil action for damages.

McGregor, wearing a navy suit, is in court and is accompanied by his father, Tony McGregor.

The jury of eight women and four men were then selected.

The jury has been given a number of instructions, including not to read anything in relation to the case on social media.

Mr Justice Owens said the jury will be the judges of fact while he will deal with legal matters.

The case is expected to last for up to two weeks.
