Bloomberg: Hamas forces trained in Tehran to build indigenous weapons

Bloomberg reported that it has obtained a 14-page document detailing a secret training session for Hamas forces in Iran.

The notes reportedly include designs for electronic drone equipment and missile warheads, with the mission to establish a domestic arsenal, according to intelligence officers.

Several intelligence officers showed Bloomberg Arabic notes that are said to have been written by a Hamas trainee. However, they did not disclose details about when or how these notes were obtained.

The notes provide instructions on constructing molds for the “Talash” drone and operational guidelines for the larger “Kian” drone, both designed in Iran.

Additionally, the documents explain where to place explosives in short-range missiles, the best type of resin for building these missiles, and methods for hiding mines within artificial rocks.

Each training session, reportedly organized by a branch of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) since at least 2016, lasted between three to five months.

In each course, dozens of Hamas operatives with backgrounds in physics, chemistry, and engineering were selected and transported via complex routes to a training facility in Iran.

Bloomberg noted that Hamas forces in northern Gaza have challenged the Israeli military with mostly improvised and primitive weapons, a strategy Tehran has supported.

As Israeli forces and tanks advance in Gaza, cutting off supply routes and besieging areas of ongoing resistance, the remaining Hamas fighters’ ability to improvise weapons becomes increasingly critical.

This adaptability complicates one of the main objectives of the Israeli military: the complete removal of Hamas from the Gaza Strip.

The Islamic Republic and Hamas have openly discussed their alliance, which includes funding and arms trafficking, but have been more cautious about other aspects of their relationship, such as sending Hamas members to Iran for weapons training, according to intelligence officers.

An Israeli intelligence official told Bloomberg that the weapons described in the notes match those used by Hamas and its allied militant group, Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

The longstanding alliance between Iran and Hamas reflects a complex relationship that extends beyond financial and logistical support, involving direct training in weapon production, which poses ongoing challenges for Israeli military objectives.

As Israeli forces attempt to dismantle Hamas infrastructure in Gaza, the resilience and adaptability of Hamas fighters, supported by Iranian expertise, suggest that eliminating Hamas’s influence may require a sustained and multifaceted approach.
