Republican Larry Hogan defeated in Maryland Senate race
Democratic county executive Angela Alsobrooks has defeated Republican former Gov. Larry Hogan in the Maryland Senate contest, Politico reported on Tuesday evening.
It's a win that comes after Hogan, who served two terms as governor, had sought to make a generally safe blue state competitive in the Senate contest.
This win, wrote Ursula Perano, "comes as a relief for Democrats, who had not budgeted to defend Maryland this cycle ... Hogan is highly popular among Maryland voters — and his entrance ramped up focus on the race."
Alsobrooks will become the first Black woman to represent Maryland in the Senate.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris easily defeated former President Donald Trump in the state to carry its presidential electors.
