Latest Report Offers Insight Into Patriots’ Mindset Before Deadline

The New England Patriots reportedly are open to dealing, but not simply for the sake of making a move.

The Athletic’s Jeff Howe on Tuesday afternoon offered some insight into how New England is operating before the 4 p.m. ET trade deadline.

“The Patriots have told teams they’re open for business with a handful of veterans, particularly those on expiring contracts, per sources,” Howe posted to X less than two hours before the deadline. “The question is how much of a reset is worth it when they’re trying to establish momentum for 2025 when those vets will only net late picks.”

Simply put, the Patriots aren’t just going to sell for the sake of selling. New England values the remainder of the campaign as rookie quarterback Drake Maye gains experience and first-year head coach Jerod Mayo tries to establish a culture.

The most popular Patriots player to surface in rumors is wide receiver K.J. Osborn. Multiple teams including the Los Angeles Chargers reportedly have shown interest in Osborn, who makes sense as a trade piece given he’s failed to produce and is playing on an expiring deal.
