Travis Kelce Reacts to Jason's 'Hateful' Phone-Smashing Incident

Jason Kelce took a few moments to "clear the air" about his unfortunate interaction with a Penn State student in the latest episode of his New Heights podcast. And his brother and co-host Travis Kelce made it clear that he has his back.

Over the weekend, Jason being was caught on video being harassed by the student, who asked him repeatedly: "How does it feel that your brother is a f--king f----t for dating Taylor Swift?" In response, Jason grabbed the student's phone and smashed it to the ground. He then got in the kid's face and yelled back, "Who's the f----t now?"

"I'm just gonna address it, because it needs one more time, and then hopefully we can stop talking about this really stupid situation," he said at the start of the episode. "I'm not happy about the situation. Me reacting gave him the time of day and it also gave the situation notoriety. That's what I regret. It didn't deserve attention, it's really stupid, and if I just keep walking it's a nothingburger."

"Now it's out there and it just perpetuates more hate," Jason continued. "What I regret the most is saying that word ... It was dehumanizing and it got under my skin and elicited a reaction. In the heat of the moment I say, 'What can I say back to him?' I'm gonna throw that right back into his face."

He added that now, as a result there's a video with the both of them using the "hateful" word that has now been seen by millions of people.

When it was his turn to speak, Travis admitted that he knew the incident had been weighing on his brother.

"You had some f--king clown come up to you talking about your family and you reacted in a way that was defending your family and you might have used some words that you regret using," Travis said. "And that's a situation that you just kinda got to learn from and I think you owning it and you speaking about it shows how sincere you are to a lot of people in this world."

"You don’t choose hate, that’s not who you are," he added.

Jason previously addressed the altercation and apologized for his reaction on the Nov. 4 episode of ESPN's Monday Night Countdown.

"I’m not happy with anything that took place. I’m not proud of it," he told viewers. "In a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate and I just don’t think that that’s a productive thing. I really don't I don’t think that it leads to discourse and is the right way to go about things.

"In that moment I fell down to a level that I shouldn’t have," he continued. "Bottom line is, I try to live my life by the golden rule. That’s what I’ve always been taught. I try to treat people with common decency and respect, and I’m going to keep doing that moving forward. Even though I fell short of that this week, I'm going to keep moving forward to do that."

Consider it a teachable moment.
