Pro-Life Republican Tim Sheehy Defeats Pro-Abortion Senator Jon Tester
Pro-Life Republican Tim Sheehy, a businessman and former Navy SEAL, has won the Montana Senate race, unseating Democratic Senator Jon Tester, who is an ardent abortion advocate.
With strong support from GOP leadership, Sheehy emphasizes issues like veterans’ welfare, national security, and economic growth. Senator Tester, a three-term Democrat, ran a well-funded campaign but lost 53-44 percent in a key Senate pickup for Republicans.
Sheehy released the following statement after his victory:
“I’ve been serving our country since I was 18, because when your country calls, you must answer, and I am incredibly honored by your support and the trust you’ve placed in me to fight for you and serve Montana as your next U.S. Senator.
“Since day one, we’ve been running a grassroots campaign, talking directly with Montanans about how we make Montana affordable again, make America strong again, and bring back Montana common sense, which means a secure border, safe streets, cheap gas, cops are good, criminals are bad, boys are boys, and girls are girls.

“My promise to every Montanan is simple: As your senator, I will always fight for Montanans, put America First, and do the right thing in office because it’s the right thing for Montana and America — I’ll never be bought by the lobbyists, special interests, and the D.C. swamp.
“We The People made our voices heard, we completed our mission, and now we will secure our children’s future and save America together – thank you, Montana!
Republicans account for nearly 40% of likely voters in Montana, while Democrats only account for about a quarter, according to an AARP poll from Sept. 5. This put Tester at an electoral disadvantage.
Sheehy is a Purple Heart recipient and previously served as a Navy SEAL in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Republican challenger also went into the race with an endorsement from former President Donald Trump that he received in February.
Tester first won his seat in 2006 after he was narrowly elected against Republican incumbent Conrad Burns. He then won reelection in 2012 against former Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg and in 2018 against Rosendale. He voted pro-abortion 100% of the time in the Senate.
