Billy Baldwin's Wife Explains Why They Live in Separate Homes

Billy Baldwin and Chynna Phillips have opened up about how they make their marriage of nearly 30 years work. And while some couples sleep in separate beds or bedrooms, the Backdraft actor and Wilson Phillips singer live in completely separate homes.

Phillips explained the unconventional living arrangement in a recent vlog. However, while she said she's "very happy" giving it a shot, she admitted her husband is a "bit more reticent about the whole thing." Currently, Phillips resides in Santa Barbara while Baldwin lives in Beverly Hills, although she noted that they still spend time together, and have "sleepovers" and date nights.

About halfway through the nearly 20 minute YouTube video, Phillips called Baldwin and put him on FaceTime, where she revealed that she has an "allergy" to her husband.

“I think that we’re onto something. I really do, because we enjoy each other’s company," Phillips told Baldwin. "It’s so hard to articulate to people that we’re madly in love, we really enjoy being around one another, we cherish our marriage, we don't ever want to separate—we just need a little bit of time apart because we are sort of an allergy to one another."

"And it's OK! I'm sure lots of different couples have allergies to each other," she added.

For his part, Baldwin only half agreed with her sentiment. "The reality is you have the allergy, I have a certain energy that makes you have like a histamine," he said. "I see your back just tweaked now, my proof! I just said that you have the allergy and you went like [mimics groaning and clasps at his back]."

"You know how people say, 'You bring out the best in each other?' I don't. I bring out the worst," Baldwin continued.

"I would think that's true," Phillips agreed. "I mean, you’ve noticed that my patience has faltered over the past year and a half. Like, my threshold and my bandwidth for your energy has definitely decreased."

Baldwin attributed this to several factors, including Phillips going through menopause, as well as the pandemic and her having a "thin skin," which has apparently plagued their 29-year marriage.

The pair wed in 1995 and share three children together, Brooke, 19, Vance, 23, and Jameson, 24. Perhaps one day they'll find a way to exist in the same space, but for now it sounds as though the situation is working out best for the both of them. Or, at least it's working for Phillips, anyway.
