Two new Polio cases reported in Pakistan
Following a rise in polio cases in Pakistan, the country’s media has reported two new cases of polio, or child paralysis, identified in the province of Balochistan.
According to Pakistani media reports, the number of positive polio cases in Pakistan has reached 48 this year.
Previously, officials responsible for polio prevention in Pakistan had reported two new cases of the disease in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Authorities in the country have noted that the number of positive polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan has significantly increased compared to last year.
Afghanistan and Pakistan remain the only two countries worldwide where polio has not been fully eradicated.
This is the 48th confirmed case of polio in Pakistan so far this year.
Reports indicate that 23 cases were recorded in Balochistan, 13 in Sindh, 10 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one case each in Punjab and Islamabad.
The resurgence of polio cases in Pakistan is a concerning public health challenge, particularly with rising case numbers in provinces like Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Efforts to combat polio in Pakistan remain crucial, as it continues to be one of the last strongholds of the virus worldwide.
The situation highlights the need for strengthened vaccination campaigns and community outreach, especially in remote regions where healthcare access may be limited.
Collaborative measures between Pakistan and neighboring Afghanistan are also essential to overcome this persistent health issue and move closer to global polio eradication.
