Legal expert reveals what he says is the 'biggest mistake' DOJ made in going after Trump

Donald Trump is likely to escape accountability for any alleged crimes he may have committed in the federal cases brought against him now that he has been elected president, and one former prosecutor highlighted what he says is the "biggest mistake" that led to that particular scenario.

During an appearance on MSNBC, former Department of Justice white-collar crime prosecutor Ankush Khardori was asked about whether Trump will ever see accountability.

He responded by partly blaming the DOJ's decision to delay the charges.

"I think the biggest mistake, by far, by this Justice Department, was waiting to open the investigation into Trump and his inner circle in earnest for a year and a half to two years after they took office," he said.

Khardori added, "Frankly, I think it was only after the January 6 committee publicly embarrassed them with their hearings and their pretty excellent work that in the summer of 2022 they finally sort of picked things up."
