How to track the droughts in New York and New Jersey
NEW YORK (PIX11) – There are several methods you can utilize to track the droughts happening in New York and New Jersey.
The U.S. Drought Monitor map tracks drought conditions across all of the U.S. The map shows that parts of New York are experiencing the start of a drought and a moderate drought, while some areas of New Jersey are under an extreme drought. Both states are under a drought watch.
The map is updated weekly by the National Drought Mitigation Center, the Department of Agriculture and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The National Weather Service also released a monthly drought outlook for November. Drought development was likely in parts of New York, while drought conditions persisted in other areas of the state and New Jersey.
You should check with your local government agencies for updates on drought conditions across the tri-state area. You're also able to track wildfires and air quality alerts by clicking here.
