Defender’s impressive development under Ange Postecoglou

Pedro Porro did not have the easiest of starts to life in the Premier League but since the arrival of Postecoglou last year, he has arguably been the most consistent right-back in the division.

The Spaniard has improved the defensive side of his game while he has been a key contributor going forward in Postecoglou’s inverted right-back role.

The 25-year-old’s displays have reportedly attracted the attention of Real Madrid, and it was reported by Relevo a few days ago that the full-back will be closely watched by Los Blancos during the international break as they consider making an offer for him.

Tottenham’s stance on Pedro Porro revealed

Graeme Bailey has now confirmed that Porro is indeed on Madrid’s radar and he asserted that Tottenham would be willing to sell the player for the right price.

However, the journalist ruled out the possibility of a January switch for the former Sporting Lisbon man.

When asked about the La Liga giants’ rumoured interest in Porro, Bailey told The Spurs News: “Madrid are considering a few options, Porro is one they like, we know they’ve worked on him before.

“I think for the right price Spurs would sell, but we’ll see which avenue Real go – we aren’t talking about January. Porro won’t be leaving in January.”

What Pedro Porro has said about potential Real Madrid move

Tottenham fans would have been concerned about the statement that Porro made last month when asked about a potential move to the Spanish capital.

He said at the time (via Relevo): “It fills you with excitement, doesn’t it? You have to focus on your work, but the fact that Real Madrid is interested in you is because you are doing things well.

“Obviously, because as I told you, I try to work and give my best every day. If I get the chance to make that leap tomorrow, I’ll be prepared for that very reason. I’ll have a lot more experience. If you had told me this years ago, I would have told you I wasn’t. Because I’m being honest. Let’s see what happens.”

However, the Spurs defender gave a more measured response few days ago when asked again about the possibility of joining Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

He said on this occasion about a switch to Madrid (via El Desmarque): “My name and others are mentioned, but I am focused on my club and now with the national team.

“My friends send me the rumours, it is a compliment, but I am focused. It is the result of a job well done that one of the best clubs in the world is taking notice of me.”
