'How Russian of him': Internet mocks Trump for picking another 'propagandist' for Cabinet

Donald Trump made another selection for his Cabinet on Monday, picking former Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI), now a host at Fox News, to be secretary of transportation.

The selection of Duffy, a longtime loyalist for Trump who has brushed off the former president's rape allegations as simply "engagements with women," triggered an immediate reaction from commenters on the growing social media platform Bluesky — particularly because it's the second Cabinet nominee Trump has taken from Fox News, after tapping Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense. That particular nomination appears to be facing a rocky path given the sexual assault allegations against him. He also selected Thomas Homan to be his next "border czar," who comes directly from Fox’s payroll.

"He’s putting the propagandists in charge of policy," wrote former Star Trek actor George Takei. "How Russian of him."

"Trump adds another Fox host to his line-up of best-in-class senior advisers. Sean Duffy. This time for the Transportation Dept," wrote Bloomberg Opinion's Tim O'Brien. "Really. True. Deeply serious approach to governing."

"Trump is going to nominate Sean Duffy as DOT Secretary," wrote Yonah Freeberg of the Urban Institute, noting that has little experience to speak of on transportation policy and has spent most of his career dismissive of the threat of climate change. "His experience in the field includes meeting his future wife on the set of MTV’s 'Road Rules: All Stars' in 1998. Trump's announcement here; note the lack of mention of railroads or transit."

"For crying out loud," wrote Biden administration strategist Chris Jackson. "Trump just tapped another Fox News personality for his cabinet. Sean Duffy, former MTV 'Real World' cast member and current political commentator, is now up for Transportation Secretary. You literally can’t make this up."
