Lawyer claims his clients were paid to have sex with Matt Gaetz

The lawyer for two women who testified before an Ethics Committee investigating allegations against former Rep. Matt Gaetz's (R-FL) said his clients told the panel the congressman paid them for sex.

Gaetz has denied all of the allegations against him, including one that he sexually assaulted an underage girl — an alleged attack the lawyer said one of his clients witnessed.

Politico reported Monday morning that lawyer Joel Leppard represents two women who testified to the House Ethics Committee about what they experienced and witnessed when they attended parties with Gaetz.

However, when ABC News spoke with Leppard he revealed that the two were also paid to have sex with Gaetz.

"She testified [that] in July of 2017, at this house party, she was walking out to the pool area, and she looked to her right, and she saw Rep. Gaetz having sex with her friend, who was 17," Leppard said about one of his clients.

"Just to be clear, both of your clients testified that they were paid by Rep. Gaetz to have sex?" ABC News' Juju Chang asked Leppard.

"That's correct. The House was very clear about that and went through each. They essentially put the Venmo payments on the screen and asked about them. And my clients repeatedly testified, 'What was this payment for?' 'That was for sex,'" Leppard said.
