Cynthia Erivo Channels Elphaba In Schiaparelli Couture and Custom Platforms for ‘Wicked’ London Premiere
For the final premiere of “Wicked” tonight in London, Cynthia Erivo served a show-stopping couture look that paid homage to her role as Elphaba.
The Tony winner donned a fantastical creation courtesy of Schiaparelli’s fall 2024 haute couture collection. The black ball gown featured a velvet sleeveless turtleneck bodice and a sculptured tulle skirt. The ruffled skirt flared out in front, revealing a shiny spherical copper opening that wrapped around the left thigh.
She wore bronze-speckled sequined tights that seamlessly complemented the asymmetrical design. Fingerless black velvet opera gloves, a velvet feathered cap, an assortment of sparkling De Beers jewels, and black satin platform pumps tied the dramatic look together.
Erivo and her stylist Jason Bolden opted for a pair of custom Schiaparelli shoes for the event, which the designer confirmed on Instagram. The sky-high style that combined a sharp pointed toe with a soaring stiletto heel balanced out by a chunky platform. A skinny ankle-strap fastening with a buckle shaped like the shoe designer’s signature keyhole undoubtedly helped to keep her foot in place as she posed on the green carpet.
The British actress and co-star Ariana Grande channeled their “Wicked” characters yet again for the London premiere. Specifically, they took inspiration from the original Broadway show’s musical number, “One Short Day,” in which Glinda (Grande) and Elphaba wear yellow and black ensembles. The “Thank You, Next” hitmaker wore a custom Ralph Lauren gown in a soft light yellow shade. The glamorous silk and tulle dress eclipsed her shoes.
Throughout the rest of the film’s promotional tour, Erivo has worn green while Grande has been Glinda’s sporting pink. She’s worn head-turning looks from the likes of Louis Vuitton, Dior, Thom Browne, and Marc Jacobs.
When it comes to footwear, the “Harriet” star gravitates toward bold platform silhouettes for the red carpet and favors Christian Louboutin styles. Erivo’s stylist Jason Bolden also works with Cara Delevingne, Nicole Kidman, Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union, and Stephen Curry.
