Reaction to Rodrigo Bentancur’s ban

The FA’s decision to hand Bentancur a seven-match ban and a £100,000 fine for the distasteful joke he made about Heung-min Son, has created plenty of controversy.

It was reported by The Telegraph on Monday that Spurs were left bewildered by the decision while many of Tottenham’s Premier League rivals were also left shocked by the length of the suspension.

The outlet pointed out that other players across the Premier League have got off with either lighter punishment or no punishment at all for similar or worse offences, with many feeling that Bentancur and Tottenham have been made an example of.

Simon Jordan questions FA’s decision

Jordan has now questioned the FA’s inconsistency, pointing out that Enzo Fernandez got off scot-free for a similar offence due to a loophole in the regulations.

Reacting to the FA’s decision to through the rule book at Bentancur, the former Crystal Palace owner told talkSPORT: “Fernandez said something equally as challenging at Chelsea but he gets away with it because of jurisdiction rules.

“So you’ve got an inconsistency about the manner in which you approach these things because the FA couldn’t sanction Fernandez. He’s playing in the FA’s Premier League, but because he was playing out of their jurisdiction as released by Chelsea he was under the jurisdiction of another governance.”

The games Bentancur will miss if the verdict is accepted

The ban does not apply to the Europa League, which comes under the jurisdiction of UEFA, with the 27-year-old thus eligible to play against AS Roma and Rangers.

Here are the seven games that the former Juventus man will miss:
