Columbus' first dog park bar opens in Franklinton neighborhood
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A new Columbus business boasted as the city's first dog park bar is now welcoming two-legged and four-legged friends.
Bumble's Backyard opened its doors in Franklinton at 1280 Brown Road in late October as a dog park, bar and coffee shop. Founders Lauryn and Evan Betterton said they were inspired to open the business after noticing a lack of spaces in central Ohio "where dogs and humans can have fun together."
"My husband Evan and I are crazy dog people," Lauryn said. "As parents to our dog Bumble, we saw an opportunity to create a meaningful experience for dogs, dog havers and dog lovers."
Bumble's is entirely fenced in featuring seating and gathering spaces for dog owners, while the park's dog-friendly turf guarantees no pup goes home muddy. The backyard is also home to a curated selection of Columbus' favorite craft beer, One Line coffee and other beverages.
The couple said they were determined to make Bumble's "a place that's by Columbus, for Columbus."
"It's always easier to order from Amazon or outsource your needs to the cheapest bidder. We would rather support a human being who lives in our community and is passionate about what they do," Lauryn said.
Safety is a top priority at Bumble's and owners must provide vet records that prove their dog has up-to-date vaccines for rabies, distemper and Bordetella. Dogs over one year old are also required to be spayed or neutered, and all dogs must complete a temperament test during their first visit.
Humans are free, and dog lovers without dogs are welcome. Dog-havers must purchase a day pass, month pass or annual membership for their pups to play. The backyard is open from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
