National Express coach is saved from slipping down hill on icy road by passengers
This is the moment a National Express coach slides backwards on an icy road only to be rescued by locals who mass behind the vehicle to stop it rolling.
With ice creating treacherous conditions on roads across the UK,the coach in Nottingham was caught out and bystanders filmed dozens of people saving the coach which was passing through the city last night.
Temperatures had plunged to below zero in the Midlands and the coach, believed to be travelling on the 450 route from London to Mansfield, rolls backwards down what appears to be a suburban street in the dramatic footage posted on X.
The group of rescuers are filmed running to the coach’s aid with the road clearly covered in a sheet of ice with flurries of snow falling.
Incredibly they manage to stop the bus rolling back into danger.
There were no initial reports of injuries.
X User Jimmy posted in response to the footage: ‘This could have gone very badly, someone slips and falls off a rolling bus.’
Meanwhile a stagecoach bus in Scotland ended up in a ditch after skidding into a ditch.
Thankfully, only one passenger was on board at the time, and no injuries were reported.
The X67 had veered off the main road.
Weather conditions are expected to remain challenging for the time being, with several warnings for snow and ice in place across the UK.
The Met Office has also warned that vehicles not properly equipped to handle the conditions could become stranded, with power cuts possible and access to rural areas potentially cut off.
Nearly 200 schools were closed yesterday with just as many expected to be shut today.
