Anti-trans politician branded hateful over ‘biological bathrooms’ video

US Representative Nancy Mace has sparked a fierce online discussion and been branded as ‘hateful’ over a video about bathrooms in the capitol.

‘I never thought we would need a sign for this, but women’s restrooms are for BIOLOGICAL women. Not men,’ she said, showing her pasting a piece of paper reading ‘biological’ above a women’s bathroom sign.

The Republican representative, from South Carolina, introduced a resolution which would ban any House employees or lawmakers from ‘using single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex.’

The move comes after Sarah McBride was elected as the first openly trans member of the US Congress earlier this month.

Representative Mace was asked if her resolution was related to Congresswoman McBride’s election, to which she said: ‘Yes absolutely, and then some.

‘I’m absolutely 100% gonna stand in the way of any man who wants to be in a women’s restroom, in our locker rooms, in our changing rooms. I will be there fighting you every step of the way.’

Representative Mace has been at the forefront of multiple anti-trans crusades in government, with this one being the latest.

She said she’s received death threats from ‘men dressed up as women’.

Congresswoman McBride didn’t seem fased by the latest outcry about bathrooms on Capitol Hill, calling it an ‘effort to distract from real issues’.

In a statement, she added: ‘I’m not here to fight about bathrooms. I’m here to fight for Delawareans and to bring down costs facing families.

‘This effort to distract from the real issues facing the country hasn’t distracted me over the last several days, as I’ve remained hard at work preparing to represent the greatest state in the union come January.’

Speaker Mike Johnson has since said all bathrooms in the Capitol are for individuals of ‘that biological sex’ (Picture: Shutterstock)

Speaker Mike Johnson announced yesterday that all single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House – including restrooms, changing rooms and locker rooms – are reserved for individuals of ‘that biological sex’.

He added: ‘It is important that each Member office has its own private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol. Women deserve women’s only spaces.’

The video has sparked furor online, including from her former communication director, who slammed Representative Mace’s 200 plus posts on X in the last few days.

Natalie Johnson wrote: ‘Tweeting 262 times about a bill that applies to like, .00000001% of Congress in 36 hours is definitely about protecting women. It’s certainly not a ploy for media attention.’

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told reporters: ‘They’re not doing this to protect people. They’re endangering women, they’re endangering girls of all kinds. And everybody should reject it. It’s gross.’

Last year, Arkansas Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders banned transgender pupils from using their preferred toilet at state schools.

The proposed law would allow someone to be charged with misdemeanour sexual indecency with a child if a minor is present.
