Tchoup's MidCity Restaurant closing permanently Dec. 29

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Lafayette restaurant Tchoup's MidCity Restaurant and Bar has announced it is closing permanently.

In a post on the restaurant's Facebook page, owners said the last day will be Dec. 29.

"After proudly serving Lafayette for the last 4.5-years, we sadly announce that we will be closing our doors for good at the end of the year," the post reads.

Formerly Tchoup's MidCity Smokehouse, specializing in barbecue, the restaurant expanded its menu options recently.

"It was our little dream to bring a full-service, traditional BBQ offering to Lafayette that included a full bar program nestled within an old, converted home with a warm outdoor dining option – we succeeded in that," the post reads.

"While the execution of this pivot was successful, an identity crisis ensued as our customer base wasn’t exactly sure if we were a BBQ restaurant or more focused on steak and seafood. We certainly don’t regret this decision, as it bought us about 1.5-years of extra operating time, but unfortunately we just didn’t pick up enough momentum to survive."

The restaurant continues to accept catering orders for Thanksgiving.
