KDHE issues boil water advisory in Jefferson County

PERRY (KSNT) – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) issued a boil water advisory for a mobile home park in the City of Perry on Friday.

The KDHE issued the advisory at 11:40 a.m. on Nov. 22 for the Perry Place Mobile Home Park. The boil water advisory will be active until the risk of bacterial contamination is resolved.

Residents are encouraged to follow these steps while the advisory is in effect:

  • If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it
    clears.
  • Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation or use bottled water.
  • Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.
  • Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one
minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household
    bleach per gallon of water.
  • Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children
is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe
rashes may wish to consult their physicians.

The advisory was issued after a waterline break resulted in a loss of pressure in the water system. The KDHE said a failure to maintain adequate pressure can result in a loss of chlorine and cause bacterial contamination.

If you have any questions regarding this situation, you can call the water system at 785-597-5613 or call the KDHE at 785-296-5514.

Local restaurants and other establishments that serve food can send questions to the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s food safety and lodging program at kda.fsl@ks.gov or by calling 785-564-6767.
