Hidden Sky TV setting instantly gives your picture a quality boost – eight taps on remote reveal forgotten upgrade menu
SKY customers looking for the very best picture quality may be missing out by having their settings incorrectly set-up.
Of course, UHD is the very best you can currently get – though there are still a limited number of UHD channels available.
Make sure you’re not missing out[/caption]UHD offers four times more pixels than HD TV, meaning you’ll see more glorious detail when watching things like football and movies especially.
Sky Sports is offered in UHD and there is lots of UHD content available on demand, through Sky itself, but also Netflix and other streaming platforms.
Remember, to watch UHD at all on Sky you need the Ultra HD add-on on your account for Sky Q.
On Sky Glass, it’s called the Sky Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos TV pack.
If you’re a Sky Q customer and paying for UHD, you might want to check the following settings to ensure you are indeed receiving UHD quality.
On Sky Glass you don’t need to do anything.
From your Sky Q remote, click on the Home button.
Go to Settings, then Setup.
Select Audio visual, then Picture resolution.
Here you should go to 2160p (UHD).
Now, choose 10-bit – this lets you watch in HDR too. If you’re unsure whether your TV supports 10-bit, select Find it for me.
Finally, tap Confirm.
Still not sure you’re getting UHD?
Remember, to receive UHD on Sky Q you’ll need the right kit too.
You need to have a Sky Q 1TB UHD or 2TB UHD box – there are two others that don’t support UHD.
And crucially you’ll need a UHD TV too.
Finally, you need the Sky HDMI 2.0 cable that was provided when it was installed.
