The £8 Boots buy Maura Higgins swears by to cure perioral dermatitis as I’m A Celeb star goes make-up free in the jungle
BACK in January 2023, Maura Higgins had to seek medical help after developing a rash on her face.
The 33-year-old was suffering with perioral dermatitis, and embarked on a year-long journey to cure it.
Maura has been candid about her skin struggles in the past[/caption] The I’m A Celeb star thought she had acne in 2023, but was actually suffering with perioral dermatitis[/caption]Perioral dermatitis is a skin disorder that presents as a rash around the mouth, according to Patient Access.
The word ‘perioral’ means ‘around the mouth’, and ‘dermatitis’ means ‘inflammation of the skin’.
“Typically, small red or pink lumpy spots develop on the skin anywhere around the outside of the mouth,” guidance reads.
“These bumps around the mouth can resemble acne spots but perioral dermatitis is not acne.
“They can also look like eczema around the mouth, or a rash next to the mouth.”
I’m A Celeb’s Maura was candid about her struggle with the skin disorder and regularly shared updates with fans, offering advice to other women also battling it.
Fast forward to now, the jungle hopeful is in Australia appearing on the hit ITV show without a red bump in sight.
And apparently, her skin saviour was an £8 buy from Boots.
Maura revealed on TikTok earlier this year that she swears by CeraVe facial cleansers to get rid of perioral dermatitis.
CeraVe products burst onto the mainstream in 2020 and are all designed to gently help the skin without stripping it of essential oils.
In April this year, Maura told fans that she used “CeraVe cleanser and La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 Baume” to achieve her newfound glowy skin.
She didn’t use antibiotics, but added: “If it didn’t clear, I probably would have.
“I really think it was the La Roche-Posay B5 Baume that cleared it up and CeraVe have a really good barrier restoring cream too.”
CeraVe cleansers include versions for blemish control, hydration and smoothing effects.
I'm A Celeb 2024 - late entries
MAURA Higgins is a late entry to I'm A Celeb 2024. Yet who is joining her?
2019 Love Island star Maura, 33, will be a late entry to the jungle line-up.
She will head into the I’m A Celeb camp, along with the Reverend Richard Coles, 62.
The duo will join the likes of Coleen Rooney, Barry McGuigan and Danny Jones in Ant and Dec’s jungle camp a week into this year’s star-spangled series.
Yet initially the duo will have their own private base – and a secret mission – before heading into the main compound Down Under.
Maura has already described the jungle as “hell.”
Meanwhile Richard, who has starred on Strictly, has confessed his biggest “fear.”
Right now, the skincare brand’s Hydrating Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin is £8.75 in Boots, as is its Foaming Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin.
Meanwhile, its Blemish Control Face Cleanser with 2% Salicylic Acid & Niacinamide for Blemish-Prone Skin is £9.10.
The CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser with Salicylic Acid is £10.15, down from £14.50.
