MLB Insider Deems Red Sox Finalist To Sign All-Star Slugger

Even if the Red Sox don’t sign Juan Soto, they still could land a game-changing outfielder in MLB free agency.

Well before the Soto sweepstakes captivated Boston, there was a great deal of chatter about Teoscar Hernández potentially calling Fenway Park home. Hernández and the Red Sox flirted with each other last offseason and the possibility of a pact was immediately revisited once the veteran slugger helped the Dodgers win the 2024 World Series.

Hernández, one of the most talented players on the open market, very well could stay put in Los Angeles. But MLB Network’s Jon Morosi believes the two-time All-Star could end up in Boston if he doesn’t stand pat in Chavez Ravine.

“If Teoscar does not go back to Dodger Stadium for 2025, I’m gonna make this bold prediction here on Nov. 22: I believe he will go to the American League East,” Morosi said Friday on “Hot Stove.” “He has phenomenal, phenomenal career numbers at Fenway Park.”

Morosi added: “I think the top two candidates right now to sign Teoscar Hernández: the Dodgers and the Red Sox.”

Back in July, Hernández acknowledged he “loves” the Red Sox and playing at Fenway Park. So while things didn’t work out with the 32-year-old last winter, Boston might have a leg up on most of the competition this time around.

But the key word there is “most.” While a Hernández-Red Sox union would make sense for all parties involved, the Dodgers reportedly are the favorites to sign the newly crowned World Series champion.
