EU delivers nearly 400 Tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in 2024

The European Union’s Office for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid announced that it has delivered over 390 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in 2024.

In a statement issued on Sunday, November 24, the office reported that a total of four humanitarian flights were conducted to Afghanistan this year.

According to the EU, the latest shipment of aid was delivered to Kabul via humanitarian airlift.

The EU delegation emphasized in its statement that humanitarian aid cannot replace “economic development.”

The office further stressed the importance of education for all, stating, “We need education for everyone to create sustainable solutions.”

Previously, Veronika Boskovic Pohar, the EU Chargé d’Affaires for Afghanistan, reaffirmed the union’s commitment to continuing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.

These efforts come amidst Afghanistan’s worsening humanitarian crisis, where millions face food insecurity, lack of healthcare, and displacement. The EU’s continued support is vital but highlights the need for a broader international strategy addressing long-term development and governance issues.

The EU also called for greater cooperation among global stakeholders to ensure that aid reaches those most in need, while simultaneously urging Afghanistan’s authorities to prioritize inclusive policies, particularly access to education and employment for women and girls, as essential steps toward recovery and stability.
