The Everton Forum • Re: Dyche

The Bournemouth match changed things I think. We played maybe as well as we have under Dyche for 87 minutes and then completely fell apart. Same thing then happened at Villa. Think at that point he decided that trying to get this lot to play football would end badly and has gone away from it entirely to the shite we're seeing now.

Factor in him probably knowing he's not going to be here at the end of the season then there's no incentive for him to do anything but get enough points to stay up by whatever means possible. Dropping 2 goal leads on a weekly basis destroys his reputation. If he's sacked then that works out well for him too.

Players probably have got the vibe he's leaving as well and naturally there'll be players in the team that don't get on with him in the first place which no doubt makes for a weird atmosphere now. Shouldn't be forgotten that he ditched the suit to the training gear (obviously there was more to it than that) to get the squad back on side last season and realistically that sort of gesture was only going to go so far.

Think the vast majority of players are putting a decent effort in still but the belief isn't there.
I agree with you about the Bournemouth game. I think the Villa game was different. We hadn't really bossed that game even at two up, they were in good form and there was a long way to go.

The Bournemouth game (where he definitely should have made subs) scared him to death. It was calamitous after we had been well and truly the better side all game. The players really did drop some clangers there too.

He took the wrong message from it though. He focused on the horrific ten minutes or so and not the very good 80+.

Add on three points to our tally and you could probably add another couple through the confidence that win would have brought and we would probably be about where we realistically could or should be and everyone probably sees the season differently.

He did an exceptional job cleaning up Lampard's mess and dealing with the utter carnage of the points deductions which were not of his making last season.

This season has just not felt the same.

The next appointment is massive. This squad is capable of better but this club has made some horrific appointments and someone of Benitez/Lampard level ineptitude really could make this worse.
