Wolf Hall viewers spot major blunder in hit BBC period drama – but did you notice?
BBC viewers have spotted a mistake in the background of Tudor drama Wolf Hall.
The BBC historical fiction drama is now in its second series with Wolf Hall sequel The Mirror and The Light showing Henry VIII and Jane Seymour’s marriage.
The period drama set in Tudor times stars Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis, and depicts Thomas Cromwell’s climb to power under the reign of King Henry VIII.
In the latest episode, eagle eyed viewers spotted something that wasn’t quite in keeping with the Tudor times as they honed in on rubber tyres on a carriage arriving at Hampton Court.
Taking to social media, one viewer wrote on X: “Good to see rubber tyres on the carriage, 200 years ahead of its time.”
Another viewer said similar as they posted: “Why go to all that effort to make it accurate then have rubber wheels on the cart. Ruins the whole show.”
“It ruins the illusion,” said a third.
Another viewer pointed out: “In fairness, there’s no way any iron shod carriage would be allowed into Hampton Court’s Base Court.”
The comments come after earlier in the month viewers complained about the series ‘traumatising’ them due to bloody execution scenes.
Fans were shocked when the opening scenes replayed Anne Boleyn’s brutal execution all over again from the first series.
The scene showed the French swordsman pirouetting behind Anne before her ultimate death, though the actual moment of her killing was not recreated.
Then her ladies in waiting, clearly upset, gently picked up her body and placed it into a coffin with the camera focusing on the blood on their hands.
One fan said: “I hope no one else gets their head chopped off. No spoilers.”
Another said: “What terrifying lives they must have all led at the mercy of Henry’s whims.”
A third added: “Grotesque.”
Another fan said: “Still traumatised by Anne Boleyn’s execution from the last series please don’t show it again.”
Another agreed: “It’s true No matter how much we knew it was coming, it was horrific ( and great credit to Claire Foy for her portrayal).”
