IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Sam Curran faces massive 87% pay reduction, goes to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 2.40 crore

New Delhi: At the IPL 2025 Auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday, Chennai Super Kings successfully reacquired their former player Sam Curran, bringing him back into their squad.

The five-time champions secured the services of 26-year-old English all-rounder Sam Curran for ₹2.4 crore. Curran previously played for Chennai Super Kings during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

At the 2025 Auction, CSK reunited with several former players, including hometown hero Ravichandran Ashwin, acquiring the Indian all-rounder for just under ₹10 crore.

CSK also reacquired the Kiwi pair of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra for ₹6.25 crore and ₹4 crore, respectively. Additionally, they strengthened their squad by securing Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad for ₹10 crore.

Stephen Fleming and his team also secured Indian seamer Khaleel Ahmed and batter Rahul Tripathi to bolster their lineup.

The Tamil Nadu-based franchise further strengthened their squad by bringing Vijay Shankar back into the fold for ₹1.2 crore, marking another homecoming.

Day 1 of the IPL 2025 Auction saw Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant steal the spotlight with a record-breaking ₹27 crore deal with Lucknow Super Giants, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. This feat surpassed the previous record set moments earlier by Shreyas Iyer, who was signed by Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore.
