IPL 2025 Mega Auction: RCB goes all out for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, buy him for Rs. 10.75 crore

New Delhi: On the second day of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) went all out for the star Indian pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Sunrisers Hyderabad released the veteran just before the auction.

Bhuvneshwar’s IPL journey began in 2009 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (then Bangalore), where he spent two seasons without getting a game. He then moved to the now-defunct Pune Warriors, but his three seasons there proved unremarkable. His breakthrough came in 2014 when he joined Sunrisers Hyderabad, marking a turning point in his career.

At Sunrisers Hyderabad, he quickly became a key player, excelling both during the PowerPlay and in death overs. In his first four seasons with the franchise, he consistently claimed over 18 wickets each year. He earned the prestigious Purple Cap, awarded to the season’s highest wicket-taker, in back-to-back years (2016 and 2017) and was instrumental in Sunrisers’ maiden IPL title victory in 2016.

Despite being Sunrisers Hyderabad’s all-time leading wicket-taker, Rishabh Pant was released ahead of this year’s mega auction.
