Contractor picked for
pump station project

The city has selected a contractor for upgrades to the Sycamore Pump Station along Arroyo Corte Madera del Presidio.

The city considers the work to be a “high priority project,” Jared Barrilleaux, a city engineering manager, wrote in a staff report. He said a 2021 review determined that “most of the station’s critical components were old and in need of replacement and recommended that the pump station be raised to make the system more efficient.”

The City Council has authorized the town manager to execute a contract with the Schaaf and Wheeler civil engineering firm. The contract involves $387,057 for the design phase and a $38,943 contingency for unexpected costs. The city’s goal is for construction to start in the spring of 2026.

Sports center plans
reduction in courts

A city zoning administrator has approved a plan to modify the courts and parking at the sports complex near the San Rafael Airport.

“The revision will reduce the total number of tennis/padel ball courts from 23 to 17, relocate the padel courts to the south of the previously approved location, and add 73 off-street parking spaces,” Jose Herrera-Preza, a city planner, wrote in a staff report. “The proposed revisions will improve vehicular traffic circulation on the site through the elimination of a dead-end drive aisle that would require vehicles to make three point turns or back out of the parking area.”

The plan does not involve new buildings. The zoning official held a hearing on the project on Nov. 20.

City board to review
plan to build house

The Planning Commission is set to review a home construction proposal in the Blithedale Canyon area.

The owners of 503 W. Blithedale Ave. want to demolish the two-story, 1,348-square-foot residence and build a three-story, 1,254-square-foot residence, according to the city planning office. The project would require variances for reduced parking; a hillside lift and deck within the front setback; and a retaining wall within a creek setback. It also would require the removal of two coast redwood trees.

The commission is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at City Hall.

Marin rain pattern
to ease for holiday

After nearly a week of persistent rain, Marin County will get a break on Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day, according to the National Weather Service.

“On Thursday, there is right now a slight chance for showers, but we’re not anticipating making it that far north, so it’s pretty much dry for the Bay Area,” meteorologist Joe Merchant said.

Rainfall totals for the 72 hours through Monday afternoon included 2.75 inches in San Rafael, 2.64 inches in Novato, 1.56 inches on Mount Tamalpais and 1.09 inches in Point Reyes Station.
