Tottenham sent out a message with a big win

While Man City had suffered four straight defeats coming into Saturday’s game, almost every pundit expected them to bounce back and put Tottenham to the sword.

Instead, the Lilywhites delivered a masterclass against the Premier League champions, putting four past them without response.

The nature of this win ensured that any pressure on Ange Postecoglou was lifted, with Tottenham showing just what they are capable of when they are at their best.

Dejan Kulusevski on why he believed Spurs can win

Kulusevski explained that Tottenham are most dangerous when they come up against sides that look to take the game to them and leave spaces at the back.

The Swede confessed that he and his teammates believed they could win at the home of the Premier League champions, given the performances they had delivered against Pep Guardiola’s men in the past.

Speaking about the 4-0 win, Kulusevski told The Standard: “I’d say it’s the best result ever in my career. It’s a big night for the whole club, for the coach, for the players,” Kulusevski said.

“I believed [we could get a result like this] because in the past years, we’ve come here and played really well. So this is the game I look forward to most in the year and once again it happens, so glory to God.

“Because City have a lot of the ball so sometimes we can rest when we defend. There’s also so much space up there, we play one against one and then it’s always dangerous because we have a lot of quality.”

“It’s always great to play great teams because they always want to play football. When you play lower teams, sometimes it’s not. There’s not much football played because they are a lot of fouls a lot of injuries and it’s slow going.”

Kulusevski admits Spurs need more consistency

Kulusevski rejected the idea that the thumping win over City is a turning point for Spurs, insisting that they have to improve when they come up against sides that defend in a low block.

The 24-year-old remarked that Tottenham still have a lot of room for improvement in order to chase down some of the top teams in the Premier League.

He added: “We have to be much more consistent. It’s not a turning point. We have to be better in other games. This game suits us perfectly, but we have a lot of improvement to make in the other games.

“We have to climb the ladder. We have to improve a lot, especially in the games where we play the lower-ranked teams, but it’s up to us all to take responsibility because we’re very good players, and now we just have to do it every day.”
