BBC’s Inside No.9 to return to screens for one last time this Christmas – months after its final ever episode
COMEDY fans will get a chance to see BBC comedy Inside No.9 for one last time as it returns to screens this Christmas.
The beloved BBC comedy special aired its ninth and final series in June, but it will air a behind the scenes special for fans this fetsive period.
Titled ‘Inside No. 9: The Party’s Over’ will feature interviews with the shows comedians Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton as well as other cast members.
The series, which began in 2014, has been highly praised over the past ten years and the Christmas special will highlight the nine series across the years.
The final series of the show, which aired in June, allowed cameras to film behind the scenes as a ‘final farewell’.
The Christmas special also comes as a theatre show called Inside No. 9 Stage/Fright is to open in London‘s West End at Wyndham’s Theatre in January.
Shearsmith and Pemberton have said the theatre show will continue the television show’s blend of humour and horror.
They said: “We want to use the different things a theatre show can offer in terms of comedy.
“A collective audience behaves very differently to a solitary one, the laughter builds and the shared enjoyment is infectious.
“So there’ll definitely be some big comic moments, but also something a bit spooky and more dramatic.”
Speaking ahead of the finale in June, the pair revealed to The Guardian that their comedy series was completely accidental.
Shearsmith explained: “The show happened by accident.
“We went for a meeting at the BBC about what we thought would be the third series of [his and Pemberton’s dark comedy] Psychoville and then they said: ‘So what’s next?’
“It was like: ‘Oh, they don’t want Psychoville.'”
Pemberton added: “We always liked the idea of doing something like the Play of the Week.
“It felt very retro but in being so retro it felt fresh, because that style of programming had fallen out of favour.”
Shearsmith continued: “We thought: ‘Let’s get back to that sort of telly – a kind of Tales of the Unexpected show where we get a different story every week.'”
