Trump’s new 'border czar' threatens foes with ‘one hell of an attorney general’

Donald Trump's incoming border policy adviser and former Immigration and Customs Enforcement chief Tom Homan had a stark warning for Democratic officials on Fox News Tuesday evening: resist us to protect immigrants, and we'll bring the full force of the law down on you.

"Don’t knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien from ICE. Because that is a felony," Homan told host Laura Ingraham. "We have one hell of an Attorney General coming in ... we're going to have consequences of people who violate the law and try to prevent us from doing our job."

Trump recently selected former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to head up the Justice Department, after his initial selection of former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) triggered a fiasco of controversy within his own party, due to the allegations against Gaetz of child sex trafficking.

Bondi herself is a controversial figure, having dismissed the investigation into Trump University under suspicious circumstances, and representing Trump as his lawyer in the first impeachment trial.

Homan is correct that it is against the law to knowingly conceal an unauthorized immigrant from federal authorities; however, most Democrats have not said they will do any such thing, instead simply refusing to cooperate with immigration officials and use their manpower to hunt for immigrants themselves. The mayor of Denver, Colorado, recently suggested he could bring the police to hold the line against ICE, but backed down from this following controversy — although he did reiterate that he expects people in his state to engage in "civil disobedience" against mass deportations.

All of this comes as Homan himself has generated controversy for suggesting that U.S. citizen children could be deported alongside their undocumented parents. He has since tried to soften this stance slightly, insisting that Trump's priority in deportations will be to target violent criminals — but that anyone in the U.S. illegally is fair game.
