Fremont: Person killed after crashing stolen motorcycle

FREMONT – A motorcyclist crashed and died Saturday in Fremont after speeding away from an officer, according to police.

The incident started around 3:30 p.m., when a license plate reader detected a stolen motorcycle near Stevenson Boulevard and Balentine Place, the Fremont Police Department said in a news release. Twenty minutes later, an officer found the motorcycle and tried to stop the rider as he turned onto southbound Nobel Drive.

The motorcyclist sped away from the officer, who did not give chase, according to police.

A short time later, the motorcyclist was involved in a solo-vehicle crash on Bunche Road. He hit a curb and a chain-link fence before being thrown from the motorcycle, police said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He had not been identified as of Tuesday.

The death marks Fremont’s 13th traffic fatality of the year. Seven have happened on city roadways, four on state routes and two on private property, according to police.

Police said the motorcycle was confirmed to be stolen.
