TfL announced on social media that the station had closed at 9.12am, during rush hour.

The delays caused by the alert led to overcrowding in the station, prompting staff to evacuate the area.

Photos posted on social media show crowds of commuters gathered next to the barriers.

Over the tannoy, commuters heard: “This is an emergency will all passengers leave the station immediately.”

The video posted on X shows passengers calmly walking toward the exits as they are escorted by staff.

The caption read: “King’s Cross St Pancras is being evacuated due to an emergency.”

Other users have taken to social media to warn commuters about the chaos at the station.

“Kings Cross is having a moment lads, avoid if you can,” shared one passenger.

TfL told The Sun that the evacuation was caused by a false fire alarm.

The London Fire Department was called to the scene but left after discovering the alarm was false.

Once TfL workers managed to control the crowding, the station was re-opened at 9.29am and tube services resumed.
